In the 1990s, the three-dimensional snack was introduced and quickly became a fan favorite. However, it was discontinued in the early 2000s. After several requests from consumers, Frito-Lay decided to bring back the 3D Doritos. The new line is due to debut in January. The flavors include chili cheese nacho and spicy ranch.
The campaign started with a super bowl LV ad featuring Matthew McConaughey. In the commercial, the two-dimensional actor is transformed into three-dimensional form by chewing a Doritos 3D Crunch. The commercial is already garnering a lot of buzz, and is sure to reach even more people than previous campaigns.
The Doritos brand is also looking to expand its presence on social media. The new campaign aims to create an interactive experience for fans. Fans can try out the new Branded Effect in a video by tagging their video with “I Want to Break Free”. The brand also launched two Snapchat lenses as part of the campaign. One of the VR experiences allows fans to set up a vending machine in their home and view the experience from a virtual perspective. Another Snapchat lens allows fans to “flatten” themselves.
